Incident

Marsha Rainey lost her life violently in a double homicide along side her partner as they pulled routine duty command on the night of April 18, 2001. Shot at close range, she never had a chance to fight back unlike the many others she had helped in her more than twenty years of service as a paramedic.

Mrs. Rainey had been an advanced emergency medical technician for Pike County EMS of Jasper, Indiana since 1979. "Marsha was a very dedicated and caring individual. She truly cared about her patient and her family. She was also very active in her church," stated Director Susan Henke. "It is bad enough to lose one, but to lose two; they will be missed" she stated.

"She was always a very nice person and very pleasant, " stated Mayor Randy Harris. "I never heard anything negative about Mrs. Rainey. It is sure a tragedy." Tragedy is the fitting word to describe the unnecessary savagery that took the life of Mrs. Rainey.
