Incident

Firefighter Knoll, who was assigned to Company 10 Hose Reel, was severely injured as a result of a collision between Company 10 Hose Reel and Engine #4 at Illinois and Governor Streets. The engine skidded against the curbing, fell on the wagon, and pinned Firefighter Knoll underneath. He was taken to Deaconess Hospital where he died two days later. Firefighter Moses Levy also died in the accident and two other firefighters were injured as they were responding to a fire in a two-story grocery and residence.
