Incident

While fighting a fire in the Bishop and Spears Peanut Warehouse at 510-512 North Second Street, a collapse occurred taking the life of Captain McKernan. He was serving as acting Assistant Chief at the time of the incident. Firefighter Frank McDonald and Captain Christ Hoell also died in the collapse.
