Captain Derek Duval Martin

Firefighter Martin and Firefighter Rob Morrison responded as a part of a rescue company crew to the report of a fire in a two-story commercial building. While attempting the rescue of another firefighter, both firefighters became disoriented. As conditions worsened, both were eventually located and transported to a local hospital where Firefighter Martin was pronounced dead. Firefighter Morrison died the following day. Both firefighters were promoted to Captain posthumously. Captain Martin proudly served with the U.S. Army and served as a state corrections officer prior to joining the fire department.
