Don and I had been dating for four years when he was murdered. He was a wonderful man--kind-hearted and devoted to his profession. His honesty and ethics were beyond reproach.
Don liked to ride horseback. He was considering buying a horse and taking it home to Russell Springs. He had a German Shepherd dog, named Chief, that he was unofficially training for police work.
Don loved guns and taught me to shoot pistols and rifles.. We belonged to a "Quick-Draw" club in Brooks, Kentucky and Don spent many hours perfecting his draw.
Don's favorite book was "Shane". I still have the copy he gave me. He never thought the movie was as good as the book.
Don gave me a music box for Christmas in 1968. It plays "Lara's Theme", from the movie "Dr. Zhivago." I still have it and it still works.
The world lost a very special man on Dec. 30, 1969.
Well meet again someday.
Thank you. Rest in peace. You are not forgotten.
You have not been forgotten. Words can not express how much you are loved and missed. We were always a hero to me.
Love Uncle Donald

Donald was my 2nd cousin. He and my father grew up together. I have heard endless stories of their youth and Donald's extraordinary skill with weapons. I was only 5 years old when he was killed, but I remember the sadness of everyone around like it was yesterday. I was thrilled to find out we served in the the same MP Brigade. He is missed by all.
