Such a senseless tragedy that you lost your life. You were a hero to the highest standards, serving your country and then your state! You were very much appreciated for all you have done, I'm so sorry it had to end this way, may God give you wings to fly high and keep your brothers & sisters safe and that he also see to it that justice is served. God bless your family and your law enforcement family.

He was the kind of kid you always remember. Smart, talented, and so funny. He was an amazing athlete and expert diver. He belonged to us (our community), and then came back to us after serving honorably in the Navy. He was fullfilling a legacy by following his uncle into law enforcement. He represented everything good in all of us. This is the great tragedy. The loss of what could have been...would have been...an amazing husband, father and leader. It was my honor to know him.

Rest In Peace Trooper Joseph Ponder, praying for you and your family!

St. Michael, Heaven's glorious Commissioner of Police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all undesirables, look with a kindly and professional eye on your earthly force. Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation, and wise judgment. Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers, and impervious to temptations. You know, St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the policeman's lot on Earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration. And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God, as we have been to guard the city of men.

Amen

Heart is so heavy and this tragedy will not leave my mind. After being a KSP family member for 20+ years a wife that always worried a mother that feared, my heartfelt prayers goes out to your family. You were so so young. Thank you for your willingness to serve and protect. I can't even imagine your thoughts when you seen him get out of his car.. I so hope you didn't suffer.

Non Timebo Mala ( I will fear no evil) Trooper Ponder embodies that spirit. He knew and assumed the risk when he applied and was accepted into the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of the Kentucky State Police. We will mourn and remember you always. Others will carry on for you and continue the tradition of service that was so tragically cut short for you.
