Charles was one of the best EMT's and friends a person could ask for. He always went above and beyond in everything he did. If he saw you with a frown or were mad he did everything he could to make you smile, and he never gave up until he saw you smile. He made a mark on everyone he came in contact with, even our patients, some of which are asking to go to his memorial services. He had the biggest heart anyone could ever ask for and never complained about anything. When he went into work he goal wasn't to make money, it was to see how many people he could help that day. I know he is smiling down on all of us. Every day when I go in to work I will remember his talks, smile, and how hard he worked to make everyone happy. RIP Charles! You will be missed by all!

Charles was a brother, friend, co-worker, and mentor. He was always a perrson that you know you can go to for any problem. He was always there with a smile on his face and a place in his heart. Charles had an amazing sense of humor and all of his superior family will miss him. I will never forget. His smile or all of his stories, Mr. Pimp daddy black will be sorely missed by all but we will hold our heads high and live everyday in his honor, trying to be as good as he was. I love you charles!

Charles was a great man, true friend and excellent co-worker. He always knew how to make you laugh. He would give you the shirt off his back. I will never forget the time we were transporting a patient who stated she has never seen her grandson play baseball. Charles and I planned to drive to the park and let her watch the game for a few minutes. Like something from a movie Charles backed up the ambulance and we opened the backdoors, at that exact moment our patients grandson walked up to bat. It is moments like that, that I will always remember. Charles was a man that would go above and beyond the call. I'm honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to know and work beside a true angel of EMS. You will be missed Charles but you be in my heart everyday I step into that rig.

Charles was truly a one-of-a-kind man. Always with a smile and a joke. The man exemplified what being an EMT really means. A monument to compassion and care, he was the best of the best and it showed in his work. A mentor, a friend, a comedian, and above all, a hero.

I was always glad to see Charles. I remember my first full arrest as an EMT-B a few years ago. My partner and I (she was a paramedic) were called to the scene and Charles and his partner were en route for the assist. Until they got there, I had no idea it was Charles. His presence set my mind at ease during my most difficult call yet.

Many people believe that private service EMTs and Paramedics aren't "up to the standard" of municipalities, but I can say that that's false. Charles set the bar so high it is damn near impossible to reach. His love of what he did showed in how he affected every life he came in contact with. Always a man of impeccable wisdom and professionalism, he was always there to lend a hand to the best of his ability.

I will always remember him and what he taught me to be, even if he didn't realize he was teaching. He always was there to encourage me when I was going through paramedic school, always made me want to reach higher and be the best I can be.

A brother in duty, a sage in life, and a brilliant man. His love will continue to inspire me and hold me to the standard he set. He will be missed dearly, but his spirit will always be with me whenever I turn on my lights and sirens.

Goodbye, brother. Fly as high as your wings will take you.

It is always horrible to hear a fellow EMT has fallen. No words could ever help the pain of losing a loved one. EMT Blacks family please know that we all stand with you and are praying for you.

A man walks through the clouds to the gates of heaven. A bag on his shoulders, his uniform pressed, and shoes shining. The man walks closer and Jesus appears.

"Hello my son"

"Hello Jesus, why am I here? I don't deserve to be here."

"Why do you say that?"

"I have a heart of stone, that feels for no one. Hands that are calloused and offer no compassion. Eyes that look past death and destruction. Most of all I have put my work before my own family, I don't deserve to be in heaven.

"My son you don't understand. I made you this way. I made your heart of stone so that you could care, but not feel their pain, so you could always carry on. I made your eyes to see past death and destruction, to pass the ones you couldn't save, and find the ones that would've died without your help. I made your hands to offer no compassion so they were free to fix broken bones, stop bleeding, perform CPR, pull children from upside down cars, and feel for injuries you could not see. You made the calluses though, from a devotion to perform whatever be the task even if it means having to lay down your life, weather day or night faithfully even on holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries. I made you all of this. I made you an EMT/Paramedic, to serve your fellow man, which there is no greater calling. You my son are where you belong, your duty is over, your shift is done, you are HOME."
