How does one pay a debt to someone as in my case I did not know? A thanks to a wife who was robbed of a husband? A tribute to one who was the best of us but took a risk to deal with the worst of us?

We all are in debt to people such as Officer Grignon. I think I know a bit about him after he died. I only wish I knew him when he was alive.

Time may heal all wounds but we must never forget ones as noble as this.

5 years ago today you were taken from us. Your life was cut short and your family's lives were permanently altered. I sincerely hope you are at peace and pray that your family is able to live a happy and fruitful life.

I worked with his brother Paul at Inland Container Corp on Shepardsville Road. I remember well that tragic day when officers came to tell Paul what had happened. I have some friends that are police officers including my retired brother in law. Stay safe and don't let your guard down. May Peter look over us and keep us safe. God bless all you who protect us!

I WAS AT YOU FUNERAL AND I REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY, ALL THOSE PEOPLE LINED UP ALL THE WAY FROM SOUTH EAST TO CAVE HILL. IT SEEMED LIKE EVERY OVERPASS AND EVERY OFF RAMP ON INTERSTATE 64 HAD SOMEONE ON IT CRYING.I REMEMBER THAT IT WAS RAINING ON THAT DAY AND IT WAS RAINING ON MARCH 23RD 2005 AS WELL. IT WAS SUCH AN EMPTY FEELING HEARING THEM MAKE THE LAST CALL ON THE RADIO FOR 216-D AND KNOW THAT YOU WOULD NOT ANSWER, BUT IN A WAY WE ALL HOPED THAT YOU WOULD. TODAY ON MARCH 15,2008 I STILL SIT HERE AND REMEMBER AS THE DISPATCHER DESPERATELY TRIED TO GET YOUR BACK UP THERE SOONER AND I REMEMBER HEARING THE FIRST OFFICER ON THE SCENE FRANTICALLY YELLING OFFICER DOWN.LITTLE DID HE KNOW THERE WAS NO OFFICER DOWN, THERE WAS AN OFFICER GOING HOME TO HIS HEAVENLY FATHER. I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE ALL PUT ON EARTH FOR A SET TIME AND PETE YOUR FATHER CALLED YOU HOME. JUST REMEMBER TO KEEP A WATCH OVER ALL OF US STILL HERE UNTIL WE CAN RECIEVE THAT CALL HOME TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER TO BE WITH HIM AND YOU ONCE AGAIN. 216-D YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Some people come into our lives and they go. Some come in, touch our hearts and we are never the same. So it is with this young man. Our freedom and peace are not free. You gave all..

Not a day goes by that the 2005 1st Division, 1st Platoon doesn't think of you.

May your story always remind us how precious life is. May those that come after us know not the pain a loss like this brings.
