Conservation Officer Perkins' patrol car was struck by another vehicle causing him to roll several times pinning him outside the car. Conservation Officer Perkins' family was in the car with him looking for a new home after being asked to leave the Boone County Conservation Farm. Conservation Officer Perkins died later that day in an Indianapolis Hospital. His wife and daughter were treated for minor injuries.
In addition to his service with the Indiana Department of Conservation Officer Perkins was a U.S. Army veteran.
