Incident
Deputy Sheriff Byrne was responding to a robbery at a local tavern when he was shot and killed in his patrol car. The Deputy Sheriff had returned to his patrol car after stopping a vehicle leaving the tavern. It is believed that Deputy Sheriff Byrne's campaign hat prevented him from seeing the suspect outside his patrol car.
