Chief Catron died from gunshot wounds he received seven years earlier. Chief Catron was shot in front of his house by three suspects.
One suspect killed himself.
Chief Catron's son, Samuel, grew up to become a law enforcement officer. He was shot and killed on April 13, 2002 by an accomplice of his political opponent as he was running for re-election as Sheriff of Pulaski County, Kentucky.
