I'm the grandson of this true hero and unfortunately never got to meet him. My father was only eleven when this happened. Both of Grandpa Meyer's sons ended up becoming police officers and my father is running for Sheriff in the same county that my grandpa served. This whole thing is tragic but perfectly sums up what I've heard about him. He arrested someone and the guy escaped during book-in and he chased him to keep strangers safe. He died while doing this and left behind an entire family to fulfill his calling and his duty to the public. We'll meet one of these days Grandpa Meyer. Keep looking down on all of us and being the protector you always were.
