Officer Manley was responding to a hold up alarm when he was shot and killed. One suspect was shot and killed by Officer Manley before he was fatally wounded by a second.
The suspect who was paroled in 2003 was convicted and given a life sentence for Officer Manley\'s murder.

The Indianapolis Police Department has been disbanded and absorbed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
