Officer Manley was shot and killed while responding to a holdup alarm at a drugstore. Officer Manley was the first to arrive and alone confronted two suspects inside the store. When one of the suspects raised a .357 caliber handgun, he and Officer Manley exchanged fatal shots. The second suspect fled but was later apprehended.
The second suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled in 2003.
