Incident

Officer Green was responding to a domestic disturbance when he was shot and killed. When he and his partner arrived at the apartment on West 26th Street, they found a man suffering from at least two bullet wounds. His partner radioed for an ambulance as Officer Green rendered aid. The victim, who had been shot in the head by his uncle, did not survive. Prior to being shot, he had attacked his uncle and his grandmother when his uncle denied his request for $30.

The shooter, who had been hiding, emerged and shot Officer Greene twice. Arriving backup officers, who were also fired upon, returned fire, killing the suspect.

Officer Greene had served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 10 years. He was a former court officer in New York City and served as a NYPD Detective for 19 years before relocating to Indianapolis.

With sincere Pride I salute my Father for the effortless dedication he made by serving the Indianapolis Police Department and the citizens of our great city. As his son all I remember growing up was seeing my Dad in his uniform. Through his dedication he taught myself and my siblings the meaning of being good citizens. My Dad was buried on Christmas Eve 1975. While assisting a person who had been shot, the shooter then killed him. He was liked and respected by many people while doing Community Policing. He would exit his patrol car and have conversations with any and everyone. My Father is terribly missed.
