Corrections Employee Rice was found brutally beaten on the institute's laundry floor by an inmate who was reporting for work. A blunt instrument was used to strike Corrections Employee Rice on the head 13 times. He was pronounced dead in the institutions infirmary. A lockdown was enforced but no inmate suspect or weapon was found. The warden's initial suspected motive was robbery.
