Detective Rogers was shot and killed at a bar during a disturbance. Detective Rogers, who was off-duty playing in a band, pulled out his weapon ordering everyone to get down in response to a suspect who was brandishing a weapon and threatening the patrons. Shots were exchanged and Detective Rogers was killed instantly by one shot to the head.
The suspect, a six -time felon, was sentenced to 90 years in prison where he died in 2006.
