Incident

Deputy Terry Baker was responding to a possible domestic disturbance when he was shot and killed. Deputy Baker was eating at a neighboring restuarant while off-duty and out of uniform when he responded to the call. Deputy Baker started to exit what appeared to be a vacant store with no disturbance when his radio "squelch-tailed" and he was shot in the back of the head. A gun battle followed after Deputy Gerald L. Morris, who was working off duty in uniform as a security guard, was confronted at the front door of the store by the two suspects. Deputy Morris was shot in the throat by one suspect with a round that glanced off his security car after he had already killed the other suspect. The second suspect fled the scene but was sentenced to life in prison after his arrest.

Information obtained from the Officer Down Memorial Page.
