Deputy Sheriff Carnie F. Hopkins

Deputy Hopkins was investigating a suspicious hitchhiker when he was shot in the chest and killed with his own service weapon. Deputy Hopkins had informed dispatch he was leaving his patrol car to make contact with the hitchhiker. A dispatcher on his way to work found Deputy Hopkins body a few minutes later.
