Officer Faber was hit by a shotgun blast to the back while responding to a home concerning an animal complaint. Officer Faber was shot while attempting to arrest the suspect and died from his wounds nine days later. The suspect was shot by other officers who were on the scene.
The suspect was given seven years in prison for the murder of Officer Faber.

The Indianapolis Police Department has been disbanded and absorbed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
