Incident

Lieutenant Sharp was on foot patrol checking on buildings in the early morning hours of Christmas Day when he was shot and killed while he was in uniform working part-time. Lieutenant Sharp was dragged to a distant entrance to a building and left for dead, his patrol car hid behind dumpster in a parking area of heavy eqiupment. His relief officer who was to work the day shift found him.

Lieutenant Sharp had worked this shift to allow another officer to be home with his family.

Lieutenant Sharp's brother-in-law, Deputy Chief Gary L. Martin working for the Lake County Sheriff's Dept was killed in the line of duty on August 22, 2006.
