As officer Sullivan retuned home upon the completion of a shift, he found a burglar inside his home attacking his wife. A gun battle ensued and Officer Sullivan was fatally wounded. Officer Sullivan wounded the suspect who was apprehended a short time later.

The Indianapolis Police Department has been disbanded and absorbed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
