Incident
Taffe, driver of Engine #1, a horse-drawn steam engine, was killed in an accident Nov. 15 at the intersection of North and Illinois streets. The engine hit an object lying in the street, throwing Taffe from the driver's seat. Still holding the reins, he was dragged behind the horses and run over by the apparatus. He died one day after the accident.
