Firefighter Mumford was driving Hook & Ladder 5 to a box alarm at 1142 North Pennsylvania Street when his truck was hit by a car at 14th & Meridian street. He was thrown from the truck and died from his injuries a short time later. Lieutenant Fred Johnson and Firefighter John Hardesty were injured in the accident.
