Incident

Trooper Barrett was attempting to catch up to a speeding motorist, traveling northbound on U.S. 31 near the Fulton-Marshall county line. At 10:42 p.m., his car traveled off the side of the road and struck a tree with the driver's side door.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of massive trauma.

Trooper Barrett was appointed to the Indiana State Police on July 8, 2007 and had previously served with the Indiana Department of Correction.
