Incident

A fire at the LaPalma Cafeteria Building which took 4 hours to control injured several firefighters and killed Private Maloney. He was working on the upper floors when he was overcome by smoke and acid fumes. It took rescue efforts 20 minutes to locate him in the heavy smoke. He died en route to City Hospital.
