Deputy Vick fell in the line of duty following a single-vehicle crash on the Western Kentucky Parkway while returning home from an extended overnight shift protecting a COVID-19 testing site during the early days of the pandemic.
At the time, Hopkins County was experiencing a high rate of COVID-19 diagnoses, and a special testing site had been established in a parking lot to meet the community’s needs. Deputy Vick was reassigned from his regular day shift to work extended overnight hours providing security at the site.
As he was driving home after the second night of the assignment, the crash occurred. It is believed that fatigue resulting from the sudden schedule change and lengthy overnight shifts contributed to the crash.
