After responding to multiple emergency calls during a regular shift on November 21st, Lieutenant/Paramedic McCarthy began experiencing chest pain. She was immediately transported to an area hospital, where she was diagnosed and underwent successful surgical repair of a vascular rupture.
After the surgery, she was recovering so well that her doctors were discussing possible discharge within a couple of days. Unfortunately, there was a setback, and a second surgery was required.
Following the second surgery, she suffered a catastrophic stroke and was transferred on December 4th to another facility for a higher level of care.
Tragically, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away a few days later on December 9th.
Through organ donation, she saved lives even in death.
There is 1 tribute for Lieutenant/Paramedic Sarah McCarthy.
Thank you for your service. Rest in peace. Forever a hero.
