Lieutenant Eddie Mays

During a response to a domestic violence incident, Lieutenant Mays and his chief attempted to take a suspect into custody, and a struggle ensued. Once the suspect was in custody, Lieutenant Mays expressed that he was not feeling well. He then went to his patrol vehicle to retrieve an item.

A short time later, a citizen approached the chief and said that his officer needed help beside his patrol car. The chief responded and found Lieutenant Mays on the ground unresponsive. CPR was initiated, help was summoned, and Lieutenant Mays was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from an apparent heart attack.

Lieutenant Mays was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
