Firefighter Nix was killed in an apparatus crash while responding to a structure fire.
The apparatus slipped off the right side of the road, and the driver overcorrected. The apparatus then careened off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, and overturned.
Firefighter Nix was a passenger in the apparatus and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 66-year-old driver was airlifted to a trauma center with serious injuries and survived.
