His parents and two brothers
When he did not respond to the ambulance when dispatched on a 911 call, Paramedic Clarke's partner found him unresponsive in his sleeping quarters. His partner and other paramedics immediately initiated CPR and other lifesaving measures, which were continued at Barnes St. Peters Hospital following transport. Despite their efforts, he did not survive.
Paramedic Clarke had responded to several emergency calls while working a 48-hour shift, including multiple that occurred within the 24-hour period before his medical event.
A few months before his death, Paramedic Clarke and two colleagues were recognized by a patient and the Ambulance District's Board of Directors for saving the life of a patient who suffered cardiac arrest.
