Firefighter Darrell Helton

While shuttling water to a mutual aid structure fire, Firefighter Helton told a fellow firefighter that he felt a fluttering in his chest but was "okay."

After delivering the last load of water, Firefighter Helton sat down to rest on the tanker's running board. A short time later, he suddenly collapsed and fell facefirst to the ground.

CPR was initiated, and he was transported to an area hospital. After unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate, he was pronounced deceased.
