His wife, Jennie, three daughters, and one son
At approximately 3:56 a.m. on April 14, Sergeant Jackson responded to a call at the Clark Regional Medical Center regarding a disruptive patient who was attempting to assault staff members. Multiple officers were dispatched. Sergeant Jackson was the first to arrive on the scene.
Shortly after his arrival, Sergeant Jackson and the patient got into a physical struggle. Two additional officers arrived, and the struggle continued with all three officers. The patient continued to strike at the officers. Even after subduing and handcuffing the patient, Sergeant Jackson and the other officers still had to use a bedsheet to drag the combative patient to the cruiser outside. It took all three officers to physically load the combative prisoner into the cruiser. Sergeant Jackson was involved in the physical altercation with the combative patient for approximately twenty minutes.
A few hours later, Sergeant Jackson complained of heartburn, indigestion, and shortness of breath. He was later found unresponsive in his patrol car.
Sergeant Jackson had served as chief of the department for 18 years. He retired and then came back as a patrol officer. He was later promoted to Sergeant.
