Corrections Employee Michael Robert Keel

Corrections Employee Keel died from injuries suffered two days earlier when he was assaulted by an inmate with a piece of angle iron following a heated verbal exchange.

The inmate was working under the supervision of Corrections Employee Keel in the prison's steel shop when the inmate assaulted him.

Although Mr. Keel did not bear the title of "Officer," he was responsible for supervising inmates in regard to confinement and institutional security.

The inmate was serving a 220-year sentence for child molestation. He was charged with murder and aggravated battery following the death of Corrections Employee Keel.

The incident occurred at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.
