Deputy Hacker was participating in physically stressful and strenuous training when he collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Deputy Hacker never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An autopsy revealed that he died from exertional sickling, a complication of sickle cell disease.
