Fireman Thornberry suffered severe burns while fighting a fire at the Withers, Moreland, and Hicks Tobacco Factory located at 716 Seventh Street. He died approximately 36 hours later.
At the time of his death, his brother, Russell, served as the Owensboro Police Chief.
