Incident
Deputy Jason Baker was shot and killed following a high speed chase of four suspects. During the chase, two of the suspects in the vehicle with AK-47 rifles opened fire, causing severe damage to Deputy Baker's patrol car. This caused him to drop from the lead position in the chase. The suspect's vehicle turned a corner and stopped, and the men inside setup an ambush from inside of their car. When Deputy Baker turned the corner, the suspects opened fire, striking Deputy Baker.
One of the suspects was shot and killed the next morning after exchanging shots with officers for eight hours. The other three suspects were apprehended and sentenced to life in prison without parole. The shooter was sentenced to life in prison plus 100 years. The man who provided the weapons to the suspects was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Jason, I had just started my law enforcement career when you were killed. I had the honor of meeting your father at the blue light cermony in Dec. of 2001 at the academy. The blue light cermony was a very moving experience for me and is something that I have only missed once since my first one when you were honored in 2001. Thank you for your service to the State of Indiana Jason. I hope your father and family have found peace.
