Incident
Patrolman Stephens had spent several hours walking his beat in extreme heat. At 3:00 p.m., he reported to his lieutenant that he did not feel well. The lieutenant relieved Patrolman Stephens and he went home. Once there, he collapsed. A doctor was summoned but Patrolman Stephens died before the doctor arrived.
It was determined that Patrolman Stephens suffered a heatstroke while walking his beat.

The Louisville Division of Police has been disbanded and absorbed by the Louisville Metro Police Department.
