Incident
Shortly after he struggled with a prisoner in the basement of police headquarters, Patrolman Lawson complained of chest pain. He attributed the pain to being elbowed by the prisoner during the struggle. The pain persisted and Patrolman Lawson was taken to General Hospital where he died two hours later of an apparent heart attack.

The Louisville Division of Police has been disbanded and absorbed by the Louisville Metro Police Department.
