As several apparatus were leaving the fire station to answer an alarm, Firefighter Carter, who was riding in the front seat of one of the trucks, slumped in the seat. The apparatus was immediately stopped and care was administered. Firefighter Carter was transported to General Hospital where he died.
Firefighter Carter was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II.
