Lieutenant Lasco and a sergeant were attacked and stabbed by an inmate at approximately 2:40 p.m. Sunday. The sergeant suffered serious injuries.
The inmate was sentenced to 130 years in prison after being convicted of three murders in 2004. The inmate was also charged with Lieutenant Lasco's murder and other offenses in relation to the incident, which occurred in a common area of the maximum-security Indiana State Prison located in Michigan City.
I addition to his service with the Indiana Department of Correction, Lieutenant Lasco was also a U.S. Navy Veteran.
