While responding to a reported alarm, Hose Wagon #7 and the Salvage Corps apparatus collided at an intersection. Private Shipp of the Salvage Corps was transported to City Hospital where he died a few hours later.
The accident also took the lives of fellow Salvage Corp member Captain Edward Ankenbauer as well as Captain Clinton Lowe of Hose Wagon #7.
