Incident

Deputy Phipps and Deputy Alvin Tackett were both shot as they attempted to arrest several men for a moonshining operation in the Weeksbury community of Floyd County. The deputies were transported to a hospital in Wayland where they both died.

Deputy Tackett had deputized Deputy Phipps to assist him with the arrests. He served only one day.
