Chief George Thomas Benz

Chief Benz and Probation Officer August Utendorfer were returning from Lexington after dropping off a juvenile inmate. As they drove on Route 17 in the Nicholson community of Kenton County, the vehicle that Chief Benz was driving left the roadway. As he attempted to regain control, the vehicle crashed head-on with a milk truck. Chief Benz died at the scene. Officer Utendorfer was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he died a short time later.
