Detective Deidre Mengedoht

Detective Mengedoht was killed in a crash on I-64 eastbound between Ninth Street and Third Street in the area under the Belvedere. She had just left work and was en route to Christmas Eve services at her church when she performed a traffic stop at that location.

While Detective Mengedoht was inside her vehicle, a Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) semi-truck struck the rear of her police unit sending it into the vehicle she had stopped. Detective Mengedoht suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the four people inside the truck she had stopped were injured.

The driver of the MSD truck was arrested and charged with DUI and murder.
