At approximately 10:20 P.M., officers responded to a 911 call in which a woman could be heard screaming in the background.
Upon arrival, officers were told by the resident there was not any problem and no one had called. Just after she allowed officers in to verify, a male stepped out of another room and opened fire. All three officers were struck, but two were able to escape. Officer Morton was incapacitated and went down inside. After a standoff, officers made entry and found that Officer Morton and the suspect had both died of gunshot wounds.
It was later determined that the 911 call had come from a residence in a different community. There had been no call for assistance from the residence where the incident occurred.
This incident occurred almost exactly seven months after Clinton Officer Gary Michael was shot and killed during a traffic stop.
There are 12 tributes for Officer Christopher Ryan Morton.
I am so sorry to all those who are currently suffering this loss. Thank you to Christopher's family, for the service he provided via the United States Military; and more recently for the service he provided via his local law enforcement. I cannot begin to know the sorrow you must be feeling, and I cannot even imagine it; but know that I am truly grateful for Christopher's service and I will pray for both his civilian and law enforcement families.
Thank you Christopher!
