Incident

Firefighter Murphy and members of the Montgomery and Cannelburg fire departments responded to a motor vehicle crash just before 10:00 P.M. Friday evening on Old U.S. Highway 50. As Firefighter Murphy exited his vehicle, he was struck by a vehicle operated by another responding firefighter. Firefighter Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other responding firefighter was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving. Preliminary reports show his blood alcohol level was 0.21%.
