While battling a structure fire on the morning of July 5th -- apparently caused by illegal fireworks -- Captain Kemper suffered what was thought to be a shoulder injury. Upon evaluation at a hospital emergency department, it was determined he was actually suffering a heart attack and he was taken to surgery.
Captain Kemper died of apparent complications of that heart attack one week later.

We all thought so highly of John. He was a great friend and superior fire fighter. We will miss his so much our prayers are with his family.
