Incident

Officer Wilcher was injured when his patrol car collided with another patrol car during a vehicle pursuit after a woman claimed her boyfriend had forcibly taken her car from her by pushing her out of it.

Officer Wilcher was heading eastbound on 35th Avenue at the same time Officer Arthur Lemme was heading southbound on Virginia Avenue. Officer Wilcher was critically injured and died in surgery after being taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, Illinois.

The suspect was apprehended approximately 30 minutes later hiding in the house of the girlfriend who reported the car stolen.
