As Hose Company #15 was pulling out of the station for an alarm, Captain Dwyer was jerked from his seat by one of the rings used to suspend the harness for the horses. He fell directly under one of the wheels which ran over his abdomen. When the firefighters came to his aid, he commanded them to proceed to the alarm, which they did. Approximately twenty minutes later, Captain Dwyer was dead from his injuries.
