Firefighter Buder was driving Hose Reel #7 to an alarm at Ninth Street and Chouteau. As they responded, the reel struck an iron trolley pole at Eighteenth and Chouteau. Firefighter Buder was caught between the pole and the reel and suffered severe injuries. He died at his home several days later.
